Past Event – Into the Night at Haytor Visitor Centre – 25th March 2017

Saturday 25th March 2017, Haytor Visor centre, lower car park on the main road, the B3387 3 miles west of Bovey Tracey. TQ13 9XT

Dartmoor Skies is pleased to be running an event in collaboration with EarthWatch to coincide with WWF’s Earth Hour.

The event will last approximately 2-hours. We’ll meet at Haytor Visitor Centre at 20:00 – half an hour before the beginning of Earth Hour.  Then at 20:30 we will guide you “into the night” where, if we have clear skies we will run a stargazing session with some of our fabulous telescopes. If it’s cloudy we will still have telescopes set up so you can learn about them but we will also have laptops going where you can contribute to citizen science project ‘Globe at Night’ and you’ll be able to find out more about dark skies. We will then give you the opportunity contribute to a wellbeing survey so that you can provide insights into how engaging with nature at night affects your wellbeing and how much you value dark skies.

“Into the Night” is a new citizen science project which seeks to highlight the significance of light pollution, a growing environmental stressor to both wildlife and humans, through collaborative and co-designed citizen science research.  It is being developed by EarthWatch Institute Europe, in collaboration with the Extreme Citizen Science group (ExCiteS, University College London), and North Carolina State University.
