Orionid Meteor Shower – 21st October 2016

This was a collaborative event with Dartmoor’s Daughter. 50 budding astronomers of all ages were taken on a guided walk up to Haytor. After a brief history of Dartmoor from Dartmoor’s Daughter, we took our visitors on a tour through the visible constellations and explained why meteor showers happen. With telescopes and star-loungers pitched, the clouds behaved themselves and we were able to share a brilliant selection of galaxies, star clusters and nebulae with everyone. Mars even made an appearance. Not so many meteors were spotted that night but it was still a cracking night of stargazing.
